The last hurried telegram that reached him had been sparsely detailed and half-blacked-out, only the words '__________AT SEA AGAIN________ CPT HADDOCK' remaining. Tintin still has the scrap of paper, ragged from his own stroking fingertips, despite everything that the war has taken from him.

Static crackles.

“I miss you so much, Captain,” he blurts out, helpless to stop the words, “I miss you, I miss you, why didn't you-”

The bubbling hiss is his only answer. He knows why Haddock didn't follow, this time; Britain called him, the last beleaguered bastion against Hitler's might, and what could the captain do but answer? Tintin had flung himself headlong into death, after all. “Captain,” he says, low, desperate, and with a precise click, the line goes dead.

It is October 1940. The world is at war.

Beautiful piece - your depiction of the character looks so vulnerable!

Sorry for another comment, I finally had to read the fanfiction for this and then Homecoming...
This picture brings tears to my eyes every time I see it... I can picture the emptiness Tintin must have felt deep in his soul and the loneliness Haddock must have felt all those years-- never mind the war, how they survived the war without seeing each other for so long was a miracle.

I would like to see you do a picture of their reuninon for Homecoming to give this sad painting a happy ending. :)

I'm sorry, I saw it after I went hunting for a bit. I found the other version and read your blog about how you cannot enter fan art in competitions or sell it.

That one is just simply beautiful, to capture Tintin and Haddock in their most blissful moment (Well that would be something else really lol) was a nice treat.

The story itself was very romantic--I think the writer should have explored exactly how they were separated because I think Tintin would have followed Haddock to England, but of course war was an ugly thing and as a result many sad parting happened.

I do wish some artist would do an ode to Haddock and Chester's friendship.

Sorry for such longwinded response. I cannot wait to see your next Tintin Art!

No problem, I just finished chapter 19 of my fanfiction. Been working on it for over a month now so I like to browse art and other writers' work for inspiration. I can't do anything with this opus of mine other than publish since of course the characters are not original.
Chang is about to come in the story. I think it's interesting how most people prefer Haddock/Tintin which I do too and then you have those who like Tintin/Chang. I find it even more entertaining on tintinologist.org where there are some serious bigots on that site who get offended if you even think mention a slash pairing.
