I've always wanted to paint an apocalyptic and crazy fantasy world... :D So, this is my entry for the Fantasy World contest [link]
Inspired by the crazy last chapter of the New Testament! :>

Photoshop and Wacom tablet, as always.

I saw that the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying, as with a voice of thunder, “Come and see!” 6:2 And behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow. A crown was given to him, and he came forth conquering, and to conquer.

6:3 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come!” 6:4 Another came forth, a red horse. To him who sat on it was given power to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another. There was given to him a great sword.

6:5 When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come and see!” And behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a balance in his hand. 6:6 I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A choenix of wheat for a denarius, and three choenix of barley for a denarius! Don’t damage the oil and the wine!”

6:7 When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see!” 6:8 And behold, a pale horse, and he who sat on it, his name was Death. Hades followed with him. Authority over one fourth of the earth, to kill with the sword, with famine, with death, and by the wild animals of the earth was given to him.

First of all let me tell you - subjects you tackle in your paintings are ones that not many people would touch. And you always add your personal touch to them which makes them really worth looking at not once but many times to reveal everything you want to say. Bravo!
But here... I feel a bit disappointed. The image looks a bit unfinished to me, to my liking... Too smooth and "plastic", such image with such subject should rather be much more majestic, with more dramatic lighting and even a bit exaggerated contrast between background and forground. Of course when you go for softer look then fine but I think it should be way more dramatic to really strike the viewers' minds. Biblic stories tell us about faith, heroism, fight, wars, blood, tears and suffering but also about great love, devotion and hope. This all should be seen in such image. For now it lacks of dramatism. Four Riders don't really look scary and they were scary, they brought death, war and everything people were afraid of. Though I absolutely love the Angel - His face has this incredible look that makes me shiver inside, He's calm but dangerous. Marvelous work here. But He shouldn't be the only area attracting the viewer, I would love to search for intricate details and symbols in the whole painting.
What I would change here is contrast - definitely darken areas that are not in center of action but still make them visible enough to attract viewers (and perhaps make them search for more there), adding more unusual colors that would compliment the scheme - like dark cool green, cool purple/violet, ice blue for highlights and a bit more of intense red. Also the image lacks textures, it wouldn't hurt to add some roughness to the side areas, while leaving the Angel part as it is regarding texturing - that would increase contrast, in the end we see angels as - mostly - gentle, bright creatures, but with the look of His face and roughness of mentioned areas it would produce interesting effect.
Overall - it's one of the works to remember, there's no doubt. Just a bit more of finishing touches and it would be absolutely superb.

Astounding! Such beauty and the most fearsome portrayals of this scene! I enjoy how intense it is and the multiple perspectives but especially how John is intensely gazing in the foreground even with a halo :) Lovely and magnificent work, one of your best and most gripping!

Fist of all I have to say I don't like this at all. I ADORE THIS!!! With all my heart. I have done a very deep study of Revelation and as an artist I was overcome with inspiration. I feel that you captured it beautifully. Keep up the good work!
